      The US sixth-generation fighter jet, the F-47, is being developed by Boeing for the United States Air Force (USAF) under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program. Therefore, the United States Air Force will be the first buyer and primary user of the F-47. The USAF aims to field the F-47 by the end of the 2020s or early 2030s, succeeding the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor.
      While the F-47 is primarily for the USAF, there are reports that the United States may offer a “toned-down” version of the F-47 to its allies, with Japan being strongly considered as the first potential export customer. This comes amid Japan’s participation in the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) with the UK and Italy, and potential US concerns about losing the Japanese fighter jet market.
