Getting into the fashion industry is not easy. It’s a competitive field with many talented people vying for a few coveted positions. But if you’re passionate about fashion and have the drive and determination to succeed, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of breaking in.
1. Get an education. A fashion degree is not required, but it can be helpful. Many fashion companies recruit from top fashion schools, such as Parsons, Central Saint Martins, and FIT. If you can’t afford to go to fashion school, there are many online courses and tutorials that can teach you the basics of fashion design, merchandising, and marketing.
2. Get experience. The best way to learn about the fashion industry is to get experience. This could involve interning at a fashion company, working as a retail salesperson, or starting your own fashion blog. The more experience you have, the more marketable you’ll be to potential employers.
3. Network. Networking is essential in any industry, but it’s especially important in fashion. Attend industry events, meet people, and hand out your business card. The more people you know in the fashion industry, the better your chances of landing a job.
